Ham Jam House Concert

Phoebe and Trip Hunt

Phoebe and Trip Hunt will play an exceptionally fine acoustic concert Wednesday, April 18th, 2018, doors open at 7:00 PM.

A relaxed, family-style musical evening around the fireplace -- with Phoebe and Padre Hunt (as well as several guest artists) playing music and sharing stories. Share the songs they have been playing for decades on fiddle, guitar, banjo, and mandolin; as well as their interpretations of traditional Texas Swing, ballads, and blues. The evening's program will be spiced with original compositions from Phoebe and Padre.

Tonight we will have a lovely house concert to welcome Trip Hunt (and wife Melanie Hunt) back to their central Texas Roots! They have moved to Georgetown, TX following the Hurricane Harvey devastation which hit their City by the Sea neighborhood last August. We will also be having an “early” 70th birthday party for Trip! He will be joined by his daughter Phoebe Hunt, and the second set will evolve into a jam session with other Austin Artists! I hear that artists from as far as Hawaii are coming to jam! Come Hang!

The players...

Phoebe Hunt

Phoebe, an Austin original, was the first in the world winner of the Daniel Pearle Memorial Violin Award several years ago. She is a songwriter and violinist of high regard. Her last association was as one of the lead vocalists and the violinist for the noted Belleville Outfit. She has put together a fine duo for Wednesday's concert!

Wayne Clark Hunt III,

For more than 50 years, Trip has been performing music and writing songs. Since his first album of original songs, Song of the Free (1977) he has recorded numerous albums and CD’s of classical, traditional blues, folk, rock, Americana, and songs inspired by the world around him. Trip’s sultry voice brings emotional confidence to his songs with sensitivity and honesty that comes from his heart and soul. While his lyrics can be raucous and rowdy, they often deliver gentle and poignant messages. From melodic leads and jazz chord voicing to complex finger-picking, Trip is next to magical on guitar. He also plays piano, bass, mandolin, ukulele and banjo.

Graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Texas @ El Paso with Master’s degree in Music Performance. Earned Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance at the University of Texas @ Arlington on a scholarship. Awarded Most Outstanding String Major in his senior year.

As a professional working musician, educator, and administrator, Wayne C. Hunt III (Trip) taught music classes, performed concerts, and administered educational programs in the University of Texas System for almost three decades, while raising a family of three musically talented children: Phoebe, Stephanie, and Matthew. After serving his final decade at UT Austin as Director of Thompson Conference Center (TCC), Trip retired with over 28 years of faithful and dedicated service to The University of Texas and the State of Texas.

At age 14, his professional music career began in New Orleans, where he performed in a variety of dance and cover bands. By age 21, he had signed a contract with TC Management in Dallas and travelled the US with several show bands performing in hundreds of clubs and dance halls across America. After many years of touring, Trip migrated to performing solo gigs across the States. This led him to university classical guitar studies, master classes, and performing classical guitar concerts at universities and colleges. He performed concerts throughout the US, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Canada, and Europe.

Trip continued performing, recording, and writing following his retirement from UT Austin in 2008. Relocating his home from Austin to Rockport, he performed throughout the Texas Costal Bend; from Corpus Christi to South Padre Island, Port Aransas, and Rockport. He’s performed regularly at Harrison’s Landing, Moby Dick’s, Sharkey’s, Captain Benny’s, Rockport Yacht Club, and Aquafest. Since 2012, he has pleased the crowds at Redfish Willie’s in Aransas Pass, where he played regularly for over five years. After Hurricane Harvey struck Rockport in August 2017, Trip sold his coastal home and has recently migrated back to Austin area. He and his wife Melanie recently bought a home in Lake Georgetown Estates.

Doors open at 7:00 and the concert is 8:00 to 10:00.

The band suggests an admission donation of $20. Daren suggests folks bump in more if they can in support of music in Austin. The entire donation goes to the musicians.

BYOB and hors d'oeuvres are welcome!
