Devin Jake
07/25/2014, 07/05/2013

Devin Jake will play a fine acoustic concert on Friday, July 25th, at 7:00 PM.

Growing up in rural Nebraska, Devin's first musical influence was no doubt his Mama. Many of his childhood memories are of his mother singing old-school country songs along with gospel tunes you'd likely hear in a Southern Baptist church, whether it was singing to Devin and his siblings while they played in the tub or on Sunday afternoons at Uncle Larry's. There she and her family would play songs like "Oh Them Golden Slippers," "Crazy Arms," and "I'll Fly Away." To carry on this tradition, one year Devin spent his tax return money on a guitar. His mom then taught him to pick and sing using songs by her favorite singer, Dolly Parton.

After a few years of playing the Chicago scene, Devin moved to Austin, Texas. He knew that living in a city where country and bluegrass music is celebrated would be a choice environment for a budding country musician to grow as an artist. There he has graced the stage with local artists such as Brennen Leigh, The Carper Family, Bill Carter, Will Sexton and Weldon Henson. He also plays regularly in some of Austin's legendary venues such as Hole in the Wall, The Driskill Hotel, The White Horse, Mean Eyed Cat, The Rattle Inn and he has a weekly residency at Intercontinental Stephen F Austin. Devin looks forwardt o sharing his love for old-school countrytunes with fans of good music everywhere.

New Album...

His most recent accomplishment has been the recording of his first solo album "Jesus & Mama." It is an Americana "gospel" record that musically falls somewhere between country and bluegrass. It showcases Devin's songwriting and his love of all things Jesus and especially Mama. The album ranges from original tunes that hold up to the old timey standards to some of his mama's favorites like "Mama Tried," "Coat of Many Colors," and "Knoxville Girl." He hand picked some of Austin's finest musicians including The Carper Family and Brennen Leigh, to play on the album produced by Stephen Doster. "Jesus & Mama" was recorded and mixed by James Stevens at EAR Studios in Austin, Texas.
